These Chicken Ranch Burgers are a great change of pace from the traditional burger. You’ll love the combination of ranch dressing and barbecue sauce!

In the summer, we grill out. A lot. And love getting creative with our burgers around here. Lasagna burgers, cola burgers, guacamole burgers and bacon burgers are a few of must-haves for picnics.

I really could eat grilled burgers, chicken, pork chops, or any kind of meat, almost every day of the summer and not get sick of it!

Ground Chicken Burgers

We often buy ground chicken to replace ground beef, so when I saw this recipe for Chicken Ranch Burgers, I knew it was one we had to try. Ground chicken is much leaner than ground beef, but you may find that it is lacking flavor and dry.

Here’s how to combat that:

  • Mix in seasonings. We use Italian seasoning, onion, garlic and bbq sauce in our burgers to take away that bland flavor.
  • Mix in fat. Adding fat into ground chicken adds moisture and flavor. Use ranch dressing, or even higher fat ranch dip to give the burgers a great texture.
  • Don’t overcook the burgers. Use an internal probe thermometer to make sure burgers come to temperature, but also aren’t overcooked.

One bite from each of us and we were hooked!  These burgers are so full of flavor and were not dry at all  like I thought they might be.

The barbecue sauce and ranch dressing combination reminded me of the Barbecue Chicken Salad that we love so much.  It was only last year that I started putting ranch dressing and barbecue sauce together. I don’t know what took me so long…it’s fantastic!

Tips for Making Burgers:

  • If you don’t have Panko bread crumbs, make some homemade bread crumbs from leftover buns. Break them into pieces and put them in the oven at 200 degrees for about 20 minutes, or until they were dry enough to crumble up. This worked great and they ended up more the Panko bread crumb size, bigger than normal store-bought bread crumbs.
  • After I mixed everything up, the meat mixture seemed very wet and I wasn’t confident that they were going to hold together on the grill. I made them about an hour in advance and put them in the fridge.  The patties were firmer after they sat in the fridge and they stuck together through grilling.

  • Remember to completely heat the grill up to at least 400 degrees Fahrenheit before putting the patties on.  This is our little trick we use, and the meat doesn’t stick to the grill that way.
  • Use a grill pan or an outside grill. If you don’t quite have grilling weather yet, you can even pan fry these easy chicken burgers.

Just found your blog and am totally inspired to try SO many recipes, including this one. Do you think it would work with ground turkey? That is what I have in my freezer and don’t want to make an extra trip to grocery store these days.

I made these last weekend! I think they might have fallen apart because you didn’t use panko. I think the burgers really needed the entire 3/4 cup of breadcrumbs to hold together, plus panko is much more binding than regular breadcrumbs. Either way, I’m sure they still tasted great! 🙂
