Chili Cheese Pizza

Once upon a time a chili cheese dog and a pizza met at a football tailgate party and fell in love. They quickly got married and had a baby that they named Chili Cheese Pizza. Life was never the same. The end.

Good story, right?

I mean if two foods were ever going to marry, this is about the best match.

(OK…besides chocolate and peanut butter.)

Have you made our homemade, best ever chili sauce yet? If you haven’t, may I kindly suggest that you need to do so? Thankfully it makes a big batch, so you’ll have some left over to try this chili cheese pizza.

My kids laughed at me when the idea for this pizza was born in my mind. “Really, mom? Ew.”  That was about two years ago. The kids were younger and not as adventurous with their eating. I whipped up this pizza and fell in love with it. Sweet, tangy chili sauce, gooey cheddar cheese, sliced hot dogs all on our famous homemade pizza crust. What’s not to love? Well, the kids didn’t love it back then.

But fast forward 2 years and suddenly my now-teenagers think this chili cheese pizza is the best. They were hovering like vultures while I was trying to take pictures and totally devoured it for lunch after I finished this photo shoot.

One thing I love about this chili cheese pizza is that it uses leftovers. If you have a cookout over the weekend and serve chili dogs, take the leftovers and make this chili cheese pizza for a fun twist.

Also, the flavors are up to you. We love sweet, beefy chili sauce. But if you like a more savory chili sauce, feel free to use your favorite brand. Add onions or jalapenos….whatever toppings you like on a chili dog. It’s versatile!

Notes

Add any other toppings you wish! If you are making a smaller pizza, reduce the amount of chili sauce. You just want it to cover the bottom of the pizza as you do with regular pizza sauce.

I have been making “Mexican pizza,” as my kids call it, for years. The problem I have with it is that when you cut into it, the cheddar cheese shrinks to about half the size. Any suggestions?

This pizza looks so yummy! At the Dominos here in the UK, they make pizzas with HOT DOG stuffed crust! Lol. It’s so weird! My husband loves it, but I’m not too sure! 😀 Thanks for sharing this at Tasty Tuesdays! You guys have been featured again 🙂
