There are simple ingredients in this recipe that you most likely have in your pantry.

  1. Cream Cheese: The star of the creamy sauce! The addition of cream cheese adds richness and a velvety texture that’s hard to beat. For those looking for a lighter option, low-fat cream cheese works too.
  2. Whole Milk and Heavy Cream: Whole milk provides smoothness, while heavy cream brings in a thickness that covers each bite.
  3. Unsalted Butter: It’s all about adding that extra layer of flavor. Butter gives the dish richness that pairs perfectly with the sweet corn.
  4. Sugar: Just a touch of sugar enhances the natural sweetness of the corn. It’s a secret ingredient with a big impact on the overall flavor balance.
  5. Kosher Salt and Freshly Ground Pepper: Seasoning is key with this crock pot corn. These classic seasonings bring out the best in the other ingredients.
  6. Frozen Corn: The convenience of frozen corn makes this dish an easy side dish option.

Serve this with other Family Favorite Recipes

  • Pairing with Main Courses: This creamed corn is versatile. It pairs beautifully with a main dish such as roasted turkey, making it a classic side dish for holiday meals. It’s also great alongside grilled chicken, beef, or pork chops.
  • Serve it over pasta: Sometimes, the best way to enjoy it is served over pasta. It’s similar to our corn pasta recipe that has such a creamy texture.
  • Garnishing Tips: A sprinkle of chopped parsley, black pepper, green onions or chives adds color and a fresh flavor contrast.
  • Presentation Ideas: Serve it in a beautiful dish to make it the centerpiece of your side dishes and holiday table.

Storage Instructions

  • Airtight Container: Transfer the creamed corn to an airtight container. This keeps it fresh and prevents it from absorbing flavors and odors from other foods in your refrigerator.
  • Refrigeration: Stored properly, your creamed corn will last in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use cans of corn instead of frozen?

Yes, you can use canned corn, but drain it well. Keep in mind, the texture and sweetness might differ slightly from using frozen corn. The cooking time may also be shorter (2-3 hours) since the corn isn’t frozen.

My creamed corn is too runny. How can I thicken it?

If it’s too thin, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a little cold water and stir it in. Let it cook for a few more minutes, and it should thicken up the cream sauce.

How do I reheat creamed corn without drying it out?

When reheating the crockpot creamed corn, do so gently on the stove top over low heat and add a splash of milk or cream if it seems dry.

Can I add other ingredients to this recipe?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with this comforting side dish. Use add-ins like cheese, green chilies, or bacon for a different flavor twist.

Notes

  • At about 3 hours it will come together, but it won’t be completely thickened. Allow it to cook for the full 4 hours for the best results.
  • The sauce will thicken as it sits, so you may wish to add a little milk if you would like it to stay in the slow cooker past 4 hours.
  • You can also make this on the stove top. Combine the ingredients and set to low heat. Mix well, and mix often to prevent the milk from scorching. It makes a quick and easy creamed corn recipe.

I made this recipe using sour cream and aged grated cheddar cheese instead of using heavy cream and cream cheese. When serving, I crumble corn flakes on top. I have also made this recipe with grated pepper jack cheese which adds a little heat to the recipe.
