Are you an early riser?

I wouldn’t say I love getting up early, but I do generally get up early.  I started this habit back when the kids were little. In order to have any time to myself, I’d set the alarm for 5 or 5:30 so that by the time the kids got out of bed at 6:30 or 7am (yes, they were early risers, too!), I was ready to face the day.

I believe this is when my love for coffee started. It’s not so much the caffeine that I want, it’s the comforting, smooth hot drink poured into a favorite mug that just feels like “home” to me. It’s a mental “pick-me-up”.

My favorite type of coffee is a deep, dark roast. I found the display of McCafé coffee at Walmart and knew that the French roast coffee was the choice for me.

One of our favorite drinks at a local restaurant is Thai iced coffee. Today I’m sharing with you a simple recipe for making a uniquely flavored, homemade coffee creamer.

This Thai coffee creamer has just 4 ingredients. The base is equal parts of sweetened condensed milk and half & half cream. The last two ingredients are vanilla and cardamom. I had never used cardamom before making this recipe, so I was new to its flavor. It has a strong, warm taste. You’ll want to give this spice a sniff before adding it to your cream mixture to decide just how much you’d like. I added 4 teaspoons to our 28 ounces of homemade creamer. Some may want to add more, some less!

I like this creamer because it is different. The vanilla gives it a familiar taste and aroma, but the cardamom kicks it up and is the burst of flavor that I love to have along with McCafé coffee in the morning.

I am so not an early riser. What ever I try to do I just can’t seem to get out of bed. Because of that I am always in need of coffee! I’m actually obsessed with it. This creamer sounds dreamy. I love cardamon! It’s a flavor that I’ve had to get used to over the years being married to a Pakistani man, but once you love it, you love it! I’m making this this weekend! Pinned! 😉

I’m really glad you mentioned the comfort of coffee over the need for caffeine! That’s where I stand, too. also, I bet this tastes a bit like thai iced tea. I’m all over it!

I get up at 4am every day, so I most definitely am an early riser. It also means I need to drink about 59850 cups of coffee, and that cardamom is calling my name! Pinned!
