Instant Pot Easy Apple Dumplings

This post is sponsored by Rockridge Press.

Have you gotten an Instant Pot yet? They’re the newest craze in cooking that everyone is talking about. I have personally had an Instant Pot for about a year and a half, but I’ll be honest. For most of those 18 months, the pressure cooker was sitting in my garage, only being pulled out every now and then to cook rice or hardboiled eggs, both of which it does beautifully.

Why did I not touch it much? The Instant Pot intimidated me. For this busy mom, I didn’t have time to learn all of those buttons. High pressure, low pressure, saute, poultry….if I even wanted to try making dinner in the Instant Pot, I just didn’t know how to go about doing it. It was like learning to cook all over again and I didn’t really have the time to learn a new method.

When I opened this Instant Pot® cookbook, I found approachable recipes that the whole family could enjoy for every meal:

Apple and Cinnamon Oatmeal, Corn Pudding, Mexican Style Brown Rice, Sunday Pot Roast, Mac ‘n Cheese…and to finish off? Desserts. I had heard you could make desserts in the Instant Pot but had never tried it. When I saw these Instant Pot Apple Dumplings, I knew this had to be the first recipe I made!

Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings

You may have already known how you can make apple dumplings with crescent rolls, but we’re changing the game today and showing how you can make these easy apple dumplings even faster…in the Instant Pot.

Let’s do this.

  • Hit the Saute button on the Instant Pot. You can use this button without having the top on the pressure cooker. I use this when I want to get the pot heated up quickly, or for melting butter to make this delicious apple cider syrup! Let the Instant Pot heat up while you are preparing the apples.
  • Simply take a large apple (we recommend Granny Smith), peel, core and cut it into 8 wedges. Then wrap each apple wedge in a crescent roll.
  • Hit the Off button on the Instant Pot. Add the butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and a dash of nutmeg to the butter to the heated Instant pot and stir until it is melted.
  • Place the wrapped apples in the syrup and pour the apple cider around the dumplings. Close the Instant Pot, making sure the vent is set to seal and cook the apple dumplings on high pressure for 10 minutes.
  • Allow the Instant Pot to naturally release for 10 minutes, then open the vent to release any extra pressure.

Open the pot and you’re ready to serve the apple dumplings, with a scoop of ice cream, of course! This dessert was so simple and tasted amazing. We may have made it three times in three days. But don’t tell anyone, K? What I love about this recipe is that it makes a small batch and is ready in 30 minutes. Dangerously easy, right? 🙂

Notes

Granny Smith apples work best since they are nice and tart. If you're using another type of apple, you may want to decrease the sugar a bit.

I have done this recipe twice. The second time was better than the first. When it was done with pressure I turned the pot off and let it NPR. They were done and the apples where real mushy. I have a 6 quart. Love these for fall.

Dumplings look delicious! I am in the process of considering an instant pot over my trusty pressure cooker. This cookbook looks like a good place to start. I would love to make some of my old standbys in it like stew, soup, chicken or ribs.

I’d be happy if i could make creamed chicken and dumplings anywhere close to how my grandmother used to in her gigantic old pressure cooker. But I have to admit, the thought of doing desserts in my instant pot is very intriguing… I just haven’t tried any yet.
