This puff pastry baked brie with jam recipe is easy to put together and makes a pretty presentation. It’s a delicious and quick party appetizer.

When Thanksgiving and Christmas roll around, my mind immediately goes to all of my favorite appetizer recipes and party foods. Although baked brie is good anytime of the year, it is extra special during the holiday.

I love brie variations such as a “naked” savory baked brie with simple toppings like hot honey and garlic, but brie en croûte, a French noun for brie baked in pastry, makes a gorgeous presentation. Especially with a pretty red jam such as blackberry jam, cranberry sauce or raspberry jam.

About Puff Pastry Baked Brie with Jam:

  • Flavor: Smooth, mild flavored brie, sweet fruit jam and a buttery pastry. There’s nothing like this rich flavor.
  • Texture: The cheese is extra creamy which pairs so nicely with the flaky and lightly crisp pastry dough.
  • Method: This bakes in the oven on a baking sheet. Or you can be fancy and bake it in a cast iron skillet for an even prettier presentation.

Do you cut the rind off brie before baking in puff pastry?

Nope! That rind not only looks pretty, but it will hold that melted, creamy cheese together before serving.

Although it may not seem appetizing, you can eat the rind of the brie. I don’t really think it has any flavor at all and don’t notice it.

If you want to remove the rind, peel it off while the brie is cold. It will be easier that way.

What jam goes well with brie cheese?

Brie jam goes well with raspberry, blackberry, apricot, cherry or cranberry jam.

How to Make Puff Pastry Baked Brie with Jam

You have to plan ahead for this recipe. Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to package directions. It usually needs to sit out for 35-40 minutes to unfold without breaking. Then preheat the oven to 400ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Make the egg wash. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water.
  • Prepare the puff pastry. Lay the puff pastry sheet out flat. (You can roll it out slightly on a floured surface if you’d like, but I don’t find this is necessary.)
  • Top the brie with jam. Place the brie in the center of the puff pastry. Spread the blackberry jam on top of the brie (use anywhere from ⅓ cup to ½ cup jam).
  • Wrap the brie. Take one edge of the puff pastry and fold it up over the brie. Brush the top of the dough lightly with the egg wash. Bring another piece of the pastry up over the brie, brush with egg wash. Continue to do this until the brie is completely wrapped tightly with no air inside.

  • Bake the brie. Brush the top of the wrapped brie with any remaining egg wash. Using a sharp knife, cut 2-3 1/2″ slits into the top of the pastry to that it can vent. Place the wrapped brie on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25-28 minutes or until the brie is golden brown.

Place the brie on a serving platter and serve.

Extra toppings and garnishes: Nuts such as chopped pecans or walnuts are delicious with baked brie. And fresh sprigs of rosemary look so festive for the holidays.

How long will baked brie stay melted?

Baked brie will only stay melted about 15 minutes, so you’ll want to serve it immediately after it comes out of the oven.

How to Serve Baked Brie

Brie is traditionally served with a crusty loaf of French bread or sliced baguette. Having that plain bread won’t compete with the flavor of the cheese.

I do love crusty French bread and even simple triscuits, but my favorite to eat sweet brie with a brown pumpernickel bread. I love the smooth cheese paired with the brown bread that has a slight sweetness.

Make Ahead Instructions

Need to keep the mess out of the kitchen the day you want to serve baked brie? Make it in advance. Wrap the brie in the puff pastry, but leave off the egg wash. Wrap the brie in plastic wrap, then refrigerate for 24 hours. When you’re ready to bake, unwrap it, brush with egg wash, score the top and bake as the recipe states.

Storage & Reheating Instructions

After the cheese is baked, allow any leftovers to cool completely. Wrap leftovers in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

To reheat brie, I recommend reheating it on an oven safe plate or pan at 300ºF until the cheese is evenly melted.
