Why Pulled Pork Might Be the Best Pizza Topping Yet

This pulled pork bbq pizza is the best new meal to come out of my kitchen this summer. That’s a bold statement. Because with the pulled pork enchiladas, creamy chicken and gnocchi and ravioli al pomodoro, there was a solid amount of good food.

What makes pork such a perfect pizza topping? There’s just something about a sweet and spicy (“swicy”?!) combination that wins my heart every time. Whether it is our chili recipe, sweet potato fries or our pulled pork rub, the flavor combo just hits. We even made a chlii pizza years ago that is perfect for using up our sweet & spicy chili sauce.

Leftover pulled pork recipes like our pulled pork sliders, pulled pork mac and cheese and pulled pork baked potatoes are always family favorites, but Matt loves it when I pull out the bbq pulled pork pizza! The pork gets just a little crispy. Irresistible!

Serve with our potato wedges or cucumber tomato salad on your next pizza night.

Enjoy! -Julie

Ingredients

  • 2 10-inch pizza crusts* premade, par-baked crusts
  • 2/3 cup bbq sauce
  • 2 cups pulled pork cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese whole milk mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup crushed pinapple drained
  • 1/2 cup thin sliced jalapeño peppers
  • 1/2 cup thin sliced red onion
  • fresh cilantro snipped
  • hot honey for topping, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. I recommend pre-baked crusts and placing the pizza directly on the oven rack. You may use a pizza stone if using uncooked pizza dough or if you don't want to put the pizza right on the oven rack. 2 10-inch pizza crusts*
  • Divide the toppings between the two pizza crusts. Top with bbq sauce, then sprinkle with pulled pork pieces. 2/3 cup bbq sauce, 2 cups pulled pork
  • Top with mozzarella cheese, crushed pineapple, jalapeño slices and red onion. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, ¼ cup crushed pinapple, ½ cup thin sliced jalapeño peppers, ½ cup thin sliced red onion

  • Garnish with freshly snipped cilantro and drizzle with hot honey before serving. fresh cilantro, hot honey

Notes

  • If using fresh pizza dough, stretch the dough thin into two 8-10″ round circles. Top and bake on a pizza stone at 500ºF for about 14 minutes. Try our favorite pizza crust.
  • Use leftover chicken for a bbq chicken pizza.
  • This is also excellent cooked on a pizza stone on the grill.
  • Other favorite toppings: corn, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, sliced green onions.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in an air fryer to crisp the crust up.
