We've made the mistakes for you so that you can make the cakes perfectly!

How to Make a Cake From Scratch
As I've tested hundreds of cake recipes over the years, I've found one important thing: always follow the recipe.
- If the recipe says to use cake flour, use it.
- If the recipe calls for mixing dry ingredients separately from wet, do it.
- If the recipe calls for mixing the cake batter 3 minutes, do it.
If you're unsure about how a cake will turn out, follow the recipe first and then tweak the recipe if you aren't happy with it.
Cooking is an art, but baking is a science. As soon as you start substituting ingredients or changing the technique, the recipe may fail.

How to Frost a Cake
As we said above, we are not professional cake decorators. However, we can still make a beautiful cake! Here are a few of our tricks: use store bought candy and cookies to decorate a layer cake.
Also, use large Wilton frosting tips such as 1M or 2D to get beautiful swirls. They are easy to learn!

How to Make a Cake Mix Taste Better
If you're still nervous about making a cake from scratch, we get it. It takes time to conquer those fears! Cake mixes can be a great starting point and we have a few hints to give a box cake mix a homemade flavor:
- replace the oil with butter
- replace the water with milk
- add an extra egg
- for chocolate cake, replace the water with strong coffee
Any of these hints will change the texture of the cake slightly and make it taste a little more special.
